Automotive Articles - Buying A Used Vehicle. Insider Secrets

Art, Science, or Both?

Our company, Precision Auto Diagnostics, Inc. has been in business of Automotive Inspections since 1989 - we are one of the (if not THE) oldest company in this field in the country. Over the years, we've worked with a large number of corporate clients such as Chrysler Service Contracts, Geico, Allstate, Honda Care, Toyota Warranty, and many others. None of these guys is a charity, and there has to be a very good reason if they find it worthwhile using an outside professional inspections service to control their own dealers.
We are proud to announce that Westword Newspaper has rewarded Precision Auto Diagnostics, Inc. the title "Best of Denver 2006 Goods & Services - BEST USED-CAR OPTION" for our work on behalf of used vehicle buyers.

Facts:

*LESS THAT 5% OF ALL USED VEHICLES SOLD ARE FREE FROM DEFECTS. *With today's prices, most repairs of a major component such as an engine, transmission, differential, etc. cost well over $1,000, and can easily top $10,000 for a luxury brand. A simple controller module may cost well above $1,000. *These days, dealers typically charge over $100 per labor hour. They charge $100 plus for simply looking at a vehicle. And yet another fact: dealers are NOT responsible for ANY defects of a used vehicle they sell on an "as is" basis, and most vehicles they sell are sold "as is".
*No Extended Warranty you are charged a hefty sum for covers everything no matter what the salesman may tell you.

The above facts are hard facts of life, and you - as a consumer - are way too often fall a victim of one or more of them. Used vehicles end up on a dealer's lot from either an auction or as a trade in, and a person responsible for acquisition is not a technician but rather a Used Car Manager whose qualifications allow him to drive around the block, look up the value in the book, add a comfortable profit margin, and set a selling price. At the time of purchase, they have no idea what the actual mechanical condition of a vehicle is, and when - or rather if - their once-over inspection reveals the problem(s), they are very reluctant to fix them because it - obviously - costs money every penny of which ultimately comes out of their profit. Buying from a private seller is somewhat a more comfortable option but a private seller may either be not aware of a problem or will not always disclose it due to obvious reasons.

In other words, a buyer is completely defenseless, and not realizing it is an ultimate form of masochism which is perfectly legal but hardly smart. There are more examples of what we deal with on a daily basis here.
